Reunited CHEMIKILL Finish Recording Debut Album - March 18, 2008
|
80s Cleveland metal band
CHEMIKILL have reunited to record their debut studio album
titled "Edge Of Wasteland". The album is scheduled to be
released this year on Auburn Records and will contain new versions
of all the CHEMIKILL classics that circulated in the underground on
demos and live recordings over the years. Recording sessions
took place recently in Cleveland, Ohio at Metro Sync and Noise Floor
Studios with producer Don Depew (BREAKER, DESTRUCTOR, MANIMALS,
WRETCH). Final mixing is set to commence at Noise Floor
Studios.
In their short lived existence, CHEMIKILL never released a full
length studio album. The band formed in 1987 and quickly
amassed a sizeable following in the Cleveland metal scene as regular
openers for Auburn bands like Breaker, Purgatory and Destructor.
Mixing speed with ominous melody and a
dark twist, CHEMIKILL
forged its sound with searing, dynamic vocals, catchy guitar
riffs, and thundering drums. The band's only official commercial
release was contributing the song "Deadline" to the 1990 Auburn
Records "Heavy Artillery" compilation. "CHEMIKILL were
one of the best, most underrated bands from this area in the late
1980s", says Auburn Records president Bill Peters. "Very
few people outside of Cleveland knew of them at the time. I
started working with the band right from the beginning and they
quickly became one of my favorites". CHEMIKILL were considered
by many to be the future leaders of the second wave of 80s Cleveland
metal bands. The band consisted of Fred Flory (vocals), Tim
Piispanen (guitar), Lee Burgess (bass) and Mike Seleman (drums).
A second guitarist, Mike Wheatley, was added later. "I was
fortunate to be able to gather together all four of the original band
members from different parts of the country and bring them together
into Cleveland to record this album", adds Peters. "Like the
Wretch project I worked on a couple of years ago, CHEMIKILL had too many great songs
that were never recorded and deserve to finally be heard. This has been a personal
quest of mine. I am really looking forward to this release."
