MySpace Safety & Security sent the following message on
September 4th to Cleveland thrash metal band DESTRUCTOR
regarding a DORO PESCH concert flyer that was posted on their
MySpace page:
"We had to remove an image (or images) from your account because
they violated our Terms of Use. Our site is for people as young
as 13, so we can't have certain kinds of pics (nude/sexually
explicit, violence). Find out more about content we don’t allow
here. If you continue to violate our Terms, we may be forced to
remove your account. If you find an image which you feel is in
violation of our Terms, please feel free to use the 'report
image' link below the image. Thanks for your understanding."
The flyer in question was designed by Orlando, Florida
artist Alex Yarborough (www.alexyarborough.com), who has done
past flyer and album cover designs for METAL CHURCH, ROB ROCK,
CAIN'S OFFERING, DISASTERPEACE, BREAKER, WRETCH and CAGE to name
a few. It incorporates artist Geoffrey Gillespie's (Doro,
Warlock, Eternal Flight, ELP) original Doro Fear No Evil cover
design. The art is being used to promote Doro's headlining
appearance and local support in each city of her North American
tour. Destructor will be opening for Doro on September 10 in
Cleveland, Ohio at Peabody's. The band will be joining Doro on
stage for a special rendition of 'All We Are'.
Destructor guitarist Dave Overkill and Doro Pesch were recently
interviewed together live on WJCU's Metal On Metal radio show on
Friday, September 4. Doro was in Philadelphia for the first
night of her tour. MySpace went into Destructor's site
shortly after the interview aired and removed the flyer.
"Of all the provocative and suggestive pictures you see on
MySpace and the internet in this day and age, it's hard to
believe a Doro album cover would cause this much controversy",
says Destructor vocalist/guitarist Dave Overkill. "We were
shocked to receive the message."
Overkill goes on to add: "Doro is one of the nicest and sweetest
people anyone can meet in this business. She has dedicated her
entire life to her music and fans. We have performed with her
several times at summer festivals in Germany and club shows here
in the States over the years and have a lot of respect for her
both as an artist and person. How anyone can possibly find
anything Doro related even the less bit offensive is beyond me.
I think this censorship action may be an inspiration for a new
Destructor song!".
Destructor plan on posting an edited version of the flyer back
up on their site soon.
